Well, after having to set up a new account because of the bandwidth charges I was about to get hit with, I managed to get all your messages, but unfortunately my new account doesn't support my old guestbook, and until I learn how to code a new one we're stuck with the old-fashioned e-mailing me with your comments. Please e-mail sionmc@hotmail.com if you want to be added to this page.

Why should Sion alter his website in the least to accommodate a thief? Taking off the picture (or renaming it, you dolt)

Great. So to protest the theft of one picture you steal another, but justify the second theft by throwing around

(incorrectly, I might add) the term "fair use". But it's okay, since you're asking the owners for permission - *after the fact*.

This is great but most likely he is unaware of the use of images on his site. (the hotlinking issue) He probably hired the

coding out to some company and when they finished he looked at it as it appears online and was OK with that.

The blame most likely falls on the company he hired not putting the images on their own service.

As this is the weekend it will most likely remain until some time tomorrow when it reaches his office and they

contact the website developer.

28 April 2008 04:24:27

From: Michael Lashinsky

Location: USA
Great Job! By hotlinking to your picture, he is essentially giving you permission to put any content you want in that frame.

You have the right to change an image on your own site. If he is hotlinked to it, that is his problem. Serves him right.

Someone said that it is probably the fault of his web hosting service. He probably went with the cheapest service he could get.

It is still his website, and he is responsible for its content.

A similar story you might like: Last year, I read online about some guy who's neighbor was using his WiFi without permission.

Instead of confronting him, he decided to have some fun instead. He put in a re-direct that turned all the images upside down.

After a few days, he changed it to make all content blurry, images, text, everything. Then he changed it so no matter what the

guy tried to get to, he ended up on this one site featuring kittens. Etc... I don't know how long that went on, but it is another great revenge.

Enjoy

Dear Sion,

An innumerable quantity of people, including myself, have mocked and cracked up at Mr. Storace's expense.
However, after the short lived thrill of comedy, I can not help but wonder what will happen to the career, probably

painfully and arduously built, of Mr. Storace. One can not help but think that this vindication, while assuredly funny,

must not be condoned considering the potentially and probably severe consequences on Mr. Storace's political and

personal life. I find worthwhile to note that as Mr. Storace is unlikely to have any web design knowledge, the true culprit

would be his webmaster, which you could have found with relatively little difficulty (Contatti off the main page) ufficiostampa@storace.it.
Now, is it fair that Mr. Storace pays for the clear mistake and theft of his webmaster in hotlinking the picture?
I might be mistaken, but I am under the impression that all you have done was post a message asking removal of the picture,

and not directly emailed him (as his e-mail is readily available) nor his webmaster concerning your issues.
There is no doubt that his webmaster is incompetent, nor that Mr. Storace should perhaps pay a closer attention to hisPR relations website.

28 April 2008 04:53:55 From: mynameis

Brilliant!

I don't think another person who was hotlinked from had the decency to censor himself to the same degree though..

Good old goatse.
28 April 2008 04:57:15

From: Demosthenes
Location: Canada
However, while he is undeniably in the wrong for the hotlinking, or anyways, definitely playing against the unspoken moral

code of all web designers, isn't your retaliation slightly overkill?
There is absolutely no doubt, that this will affect Mr. Storace's political life, considering how a small slip

(and I would not consider this one) has and can damage political reputations in a blink. That you not only defaced his website,

but on top of it, let Italian newspapers know about it? If you could go through this much trouble, one can't help but

wonder why you wouldn't have simply emailed him from the onset?
I have, and I'm probably the only one in the world, while others who have found your initial defacement

hilarious, have decided to add their own personal touch and deface it as well. Notice goatse when you scroll down

(I assume it was not you, since you went as far as to use a cdc (thank you, I never knew this abbreviation.

Not sure if i did, but I can't help but wonder where you learnt it; apparently defacing isn't new to you) as it would defy

the point as you justly stated. We now arrive at a point, when a random kid with a website influences the politics of a foreign

country. All this, for hotlinking. I don't condone hotlinking, but I'm definitely against your actions, despite the fact that they

were funny, for the first 5 minutes

I have had a website for more than 15 years, and over the years, it has grown to quite a size, with plenty of pictures

that are often deep-linked.

I usually do not mind if it is some web discussion board, but when it is for a blatant commercial use,

that’s where I draw the line, and I also DO put gay porn pictures (but not goatse, though).

Never got flack for it, though.

A logical problem: You claim that the image is 'fair use'. Then you said that you went back to ask permission

of the original creator. If your use actually falls under 'fair use', then no permission is needed. Even worse, I wonder if

asking for permission could undermine a fair use claim (should it go as far as a courtroom setting, which is highly doubtful).

In any case, I would like to subscribe to your political satire newsletter?

I think you even helped us... we are prisoners of all this ignorant people. They usually attract young guys t

hat are not able to do web, promising money and career in politics, to avoid spending money for their websites.

Those are the results; and there are many other funny things that happened. Please continue to monitor our country

beacouse without you worldwide pointing your fingers on these idiots, half of the country will continue to vote those ignorants

for a long time.
P.s.: just a thing that I didn't like in your pages (in the part one): the image is not your property... copyright isn't a property right...

can't be a property right. Italian copyright law makes the copyright a "grant/concession": first is protected the idea to

maximize art production, secondly is protected art itself, second is protected the author as he/she can provide more art...

creativity it's a concession (from God, if you believe; and from your mom, father, friends, all the other peers

that you met in your life, and the society you live in and gave you 2000 years of older creativity)... not a property right.

If you don't accept this, your picture... well... isn't yours: that's our Pantheon, and our Parliament is discussing the

third attempt to make our arts private&copyrighted (explicitly excluding your right to take a picture of it).

Wonderful revenge for a thief.
Anyway, take into account that Italian politician have a very long tradition in stealing: Mr. Storace will surely

find another way to steal you something else. Be aware!

Really a nice idea. This man thinks that, being a politician, he can do whatever he likes... unfortunately many

Italian politicians behave like him!

Dear Sion,

First of all I can’t help being enthusiastic of your entirely justified retaliation.

And I would like to point out that the use, as the active party of the anal penetration, of Mr. Berlusconi, is rather poignant.

Not only he literally  sodomized Mr. Storace in the last election, wiping his extreme Right Wing Party out of our Parliament,

but- and here is the downside- he is getting ready to do the same thing with the entirety of the Italian Population.

I send you my Best Regards

Yours Sincerely

Edoardo Sala

I read your page
http://www.sionmc.com/storace/stealing.htm

Very very funny  :)

Only a little suggestion to you. Do not use online... translation for your text.

The italian text you write below the english text doesn't mean anything.
The right translation is:

"Per favore eliminate questa fotografia (link of your image) dalle vostre pagine web. La foto è stata linkata senza il permesso,

inoltre essendo di mia proprietà ne detengo il copyright. In attesa di riscontro, saluto cordialmente. Your signature.".

Bye Bye,

Hi, just two lines to tell you that you're some kind of genius.
Maybe you don't realize the political meaning of this picture, but I
assure you that it goes far beyond your wishes.
In fact, Storace, is really f**ked by Berlusconi from behind.
For you to know, Berlusconi is going to f**k a lot of people, minding
only his business.

Italian politics have all a website, but no one reads or cares about
email or whatever. They even don't know english at all.
We have several information issue here in Italy... we are a third world
country.

The hotlinking issue is SO low profile.. they even didn't care about (at
least) downloading and hosting the image for themselves.

Thanks for a good laugh anyway.

Ciao

30 April 2008 16:39:16 Hi thanks God someone out there has wit enough to make me laugh after all the sh** happening here in this country.
If you don't mind, I would like to let you know that the correct translation of the english text in the message sent to this ***whole referring to first part is:
Tolga, per favore, questa foto dalle sue pagine web (if more than one page) ....- it may be the point of not doing it!!! hahahahaha.
However, thanks for the good laugh and it may support to know that the picture is not the only thing he takes possession of as if it is due to him.

Sincerely,
Martina (Italy)
30 April 2008 17:18:45 THANK YOU!

Some of the most important Italian newspapers wrote about it (Corriere

You did a great job!

Hello Sion,

(sorry for the missing ´`)

I found the link to your site on a discussion board and I am sure that it is not the only one where it is published. I think you will have much traffic during the next weeks. I have not much traffic on my webspace so here is my offer:

- I save this three pages to the backup of my homepage on my computer. The source code is very simple and it will not cause any probs.

- I load them up to my webspace and tell you the URL. You change the part one of the story by giving a short introduction about the circumstances and giving this URL.

- We both will be winners: you will have less traffic and I will have new visitors :-) Let me know and it will be done at least on saturday.

Your story about the stolen pic is gorgeous. I have also taken pictures from other sites for mine but never by hotlinking. My yearly Advent calendar contains some pictures which are taken by other people and I know that I am offending against the copyright. In contrast with Storace's site mine is non-profit. I also have no trouble if somebody published a picture or a story from my homepage if the source is cited.

So if you are interested in a backup of your story on my webspace please let me know.

Have a nice day!

Well done mate and you can add Thailand to your list, as although I viewed this page in Singapore, where I am having a long weekend, I live and work in Thailand, and will examine it in more detail when I get back there. Thailand is actually the capital of ripping stuff off without paying for it, but never mind.

Regards

Ray

Thank you to everyone one who has left messages about the site. Your feedback has been useful, entertaining, and in some cases thought-provoking.

I am especially grateful to those Italian speakers who offered, or gave help in translation.
