But eh, i've been a newbie like anyone else on the net. In the early days i may have hotlinked a few images

here and there, but i simply did not understand the who, what, when and why of the action..

Heck, what did i know about servers, bandwith quota and payments for it.. just never came to mind..

Nowadays, i just copy and store it in photobucket or something, no harm (only the copying the pic without authorization).
So, in defense of the poor b*stard, he may not have known..

This is great but most likely he is unaware of the use of images on his site. (the hotlinking issue) He probably hired the

coding out to some company and when they finished he looked at it as it appears online and was OK with that.

The blame most likely falls on the company he hired not putting the images on their own service.

As this is the weekend it will most likely remain until some time tomorrow when it reaches his office and they

contact the website developer.

Great Job! By hotlinking to your picture, he is essentially giving you permission to put any content you want in that frame.

You have the right to change an image on your own site. If he is hotlinked to it, that is his problem. Serves him right.

Someone said that it is probably the fault of his web hosting service. He probably went with the cheapest service he could get.

It is still his website, and he is responsible for its content.

A similar story you might like: Last year, I read online about some guy who's neighbor was using his WiFi without permission.

Instead of confronting him, he decided to have some fun instead. He put in a re-direct that turned all the images upside down.

After a few days, he changed it to make all content blurry, images, text, everything. Then he changed it so no matter what the

guy tried to get to, he ended up on this one site featuring kittens. Etc... I don't know how long that went on, but it is another great revenge.

An innumerable quantity of people, including myself, have mocked and cracked up at Mr. Storace's expense.
However, after the short lived thrill of comedy, I can not help but wonder what will happen to the career, probably

painfully and arduously built, of Mr. Storace. One can not help but think that this vindication, while assuredly funny,

must not be condoned considering the potentially and probably severe consequences on Mr. Storace's political and

personal life. I find worthwhile to note that as Mr. Storace is unlikely to have any web design knowledge, the true culprit

Now, is it fair that Mr. Storace pays for the clear mistake and theft of his webmaster in hotlinking the picture?
I might be mistaken, but I am under the impression that all you have done was post a message asking removal of the picture,

and not directly emailed him (as his e-mail is readily available) nor his webmaster concerning your issues.
There is no doubt that his webmaster is incompetent, nor that Mr. Storace should perhaps pay a closer attention to hisPR relations website.

There is absolutely no doubt, that this will affect Mr. Storace's political life, considering how a small slip

I have had a website for more than 15 years, and over the years, it has grown to quite a size, with plenty of pictures

that are often deep-linked.

I usually do not mind if it is some web discussion board, but when it is for a blatant commercial use,

that’s where I draw the line, and I also DO put gay porn pictures (but not goatse, though).

Never got flack for it, though.

A logical problem: You claim that the image is 'fair use'. Then you said that you went back to ask permission

of the original creator. If your use actually falls under 'fair use', then no permission is needed. Even worse, I wonder if

asking for permission could undermine a fair use claim (should it go as far as a courtroom setting, which is highly doubtful).

can't be a property right. Italian copyright law makes the copyright a "grant/concession": first is protected the idea to

maximize art production, secondly is protected art itself, second is protected the author as he/she can provide more art...

creativity it's a concession (from God, if you believe; and from your mom, father, friends, all the other peers

that you met in your life, and the society you live in and gave you 2000 years of older creativity)... not a property right.

If you don't accept this, your picture... well... isn't yours: that's our Pantheon, and our Parliament is discussing the

third attempt to make our arts private&copyrighted (explicitly excluding your right to take a picture of it).

Hi, just two lines to tell you that you're some kind of genius.
Maybe you don't realize the political meaning of this picture, but I 
assure you that it goes far beyond your wishes.
In fact, Storace, is really f**ked by Berlusconi from behind.
For you to know, Berlusconi is going to f**k a lot of people, minding 
only his business.
 
Italian politics have all a website, but no one reads or cares about 
email or whatever. They even don't know english at all.
We have several information issue here in Italy... we are a third world 
country.
 
The hotlinking issue is SO low profile.. they even didn't care about (at 
least) downloading and hosting the image for themselves.
