The Temple of Venus and Rome

The Temple of Venus and Rome was built by the Emperor Hadrian. The architect Apollodorus (a favourite of the emperor Trajan) criticised the temple saying that the doors were mis-proportioned and the godddess would not be able to walk in and out. Hadrian's reaction to this comment was to cut his head off. Hint. Never criticise a despot's new toy.
