The Regia

The
house of the kings was very closely linked with the house of the Vestal
Virgins and the Domus Publica; perhaps because of the multifunctional
role taken by early Roman kings who were not only a political force,
but had a real religious power as well. The visible remains date from
the repair work undertaken by Domitius Calvinus in 36 BC.
