The Oratory of the 40 Martyrs

Nope, this isn't a mirage or mistake, this is the same photo as in the last page. Behind the Aedicula of the Lacus Iurturna is the reconstruction of the Oratory of the 40 Martyrs. It is named after a large painting that once decorated the apse. This painting shows evidence of the christianisation of the cult of the spring as it documents the "devotion" bestowed on 40 soldiers of the Emperor Diocletian who were sentenced to freeze to death in a pond.
