Milarium Aureum

These days the Milarium Aureum is an unimpressive pile of bricks that stands in front of the Temple of Saturn. It was once a golden monument that stood parallel to the Umbilicus Urbus and was built in 20BC by the Emperor Augustus. The column that the base supported was covered with gilded bronze and showed the distances to all the major cities of the empire.
