The Domus Publica

OK. Here's the bit where I have to be honest. Without actually being there in person with the guide book in my hand it's hard to remember where the Domus Publica starts and ends, and which photos are of private houses that happen to adjoin it. For safety's sake I've included everything in here. If you spot something that is obviously not the Domus Publica I'd be very grateful if you could email me at sionmc@hotmail.com. The main picture below shows the Domus Publica with the Palantine Hill and the Domus Tiberiana in the background.

The Domus Publica was the official residence of the Pontifex Maximus, the High Priest of Rome, between 153 and 44 BC. The building was given to the Vestal Virgins by Augustus when he took the title of Pontifex Maximus following the death of the previous holder, Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, in 12 BC. (Lepidus had been given the title by Anthony following the death of Caesar, and was allowed to retain it by Augustus even after Lepidus had tried to steal Sicily)
